Our recent Astronomy Night was a great success. It was held on the 2nd of August, and we were treated to clear skies which was perfect for observing the stars. The viewing was led by budding astrophysicist Lydia Wenke who is currently completing a Batchelor of Science at Charles Sturt University. She was ably assisted by her father Craig.
Three telescopes were used to conduct the Astronomy viewing night, two Newtonian and a large Dobsonian telescope to view the Milky Way, Eagle Nebula, Omega Centauri and other star clusters. Lydia also used her own astrophotography set-up to take images on the night. The image collage above shows some of the patrons on the night, bottom left is Omega Centauri and bottom right is the Carina Nebula.
All who attended on the night enjoyed viewing the stars, witnessing a very large shooting star, sitting around the warm fire and the food and hot Beveridge’s supplied by Thistle mobile Coffee.
As an education museum we are pleased to bring interesting new concepts to our target audience, especially with an activity that locals don’t normally have access to at Walla Walla.
