On the 27th of October 2024, a Thanksgiving service was conducted with Pastor John Borchert presiding. Pastor Richard Schwedes, Bishop of the LCA NSW-ACT District, delivered the address, with readings by Pastors Darren Kupke, Rex Mickan, and Robert Bartholomaeus. Craig Wenke Zion organist, with the combined choirs of Walla Walla and Henty led by Alan Zweck. The Zion Lutheran Church, built by Hardy Brother builders of Wagga Wagga, celebrated its centenary, having been dedicated on the same date in 1924.
The service, themed “Unshakable Foundation – Enduring Inheritance,” featured the choir singing the first hymn in German, marking a highlight of the event. A luncheon for the congregation and guests followed the service. The heritage display in the hall garnered positive attention, and the Walla Wagon, drawn by Clydesdales, provided a memorable photo opportunity for attendees.
The preceding day’s organ recital highlighted Dr. Graham Lieschke’s performance and the historic Fincham (1869)/Laurie (1967) pipe organ, including hymns by J.S. Bach.
